History of
Dalur Horsecenter
Dalur horsecenter began its operations at the turn of the year 1978/1979.
The partners and owners in the beginning were Gunnar B. Dungal and Þórdís Alda Sigurðardóttir, Eyjólfur Ísólfsson and Guðbjörg Sveinsdóttir, Jóhann Friðriksson and Gunnlaug Eggertsdóttir.
Gunnar and Þórdís soon took over as operators and owners, and many of the Iceland best-known riders worked at Dalur in the subsequent years.
Eyjólfur Ísólfsson was the first person to train in Dalur together with Guðbjörg Sveinsdóttir, Trausti Þór Guðmundsson and Guðmundur Guðmundsson. Eyjólfur designed the first interiors and he and Trausti Þór worked on their installation. During Eyjólfur's time, various courses were held here.
The Facilities
Dalur horsecenter is located in Mosfellsbær.
The stable in Dalur is for approx. 54 horses, with two interconnected stables through a small riding hall which was built in 1993. Adjacent to the stables is an 800 square meter riding hall and a 100 square meter living room (Ormsstofa) which connects the stable and the riding hall.
At Dalur there is an oval track, a pace track, good access to pasture and many various riding routes.
A place of Upbringing /
Dalsplássið
In the years 2006, 2007 and 2014 Gunnar and Þórdís bought Stapi, Héraðsdalur I and Laugardalur in Lýtingsstaðahreppur, Skagafjörður. These lands are extensive with a varied landscape and thus ideal for a stud farm.
All year round, a large part of the Dallands horses are kept in the north, especially young horses and breeding mares. There they have a lot of space, hills and valleys and hopefully the feeling of freedom during the upbringing years.
